HUGE SINKHOLE on Victory Drive Columbus, Georgia

A sanitary sewer main collapsed causing a major sinkhole to form on Victory Drive.  Columbus Waterworks said the pipe collapse happened Saturday afternoon across from the National Guard Armory.

The Eastbound lane of Victory Drive nearby is temporarily closed.  Waterworks is coordinating repair efforts with Gordy Construction.

“Everything is roped off and barricaded off for safety so we’re being as safe as we can,” JD Haney with Gordy Construction said.

All traffic will be detoured until further notice.  Westbound traffic will be detoured to I-185 North and exit off Macon Road.  Eastbound traffic will be detoured North on Veterans Parkway eventually leading to Macon Road and I-185 South to Victory Drive. For more details on the detours, check out the document above of the Columbus Water Works explanation.

Saudi Arabia breaks off ties with Iran after al-Nimr execution

Saudi Arabia says it has broken off diplomatic ties with Iran, amid a row over the Saudi execution of a prominent Shia Muslim cleric.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir was speaking after demonstrators had stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran.
Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr and 46 others were executed on Saturday after being convicted of terror-related offences.
Mr Jubeir said that all Iranian diplomats must leave Saudi Arabia within 48 hours.
Saudi Arabia was recalling its diplomats from Tehran, he said.
Mr Jubeir said Saudi Arabia would not let Iran undermine its security, accusing it of having "distributed weapons and planted terrorist cells in the region".
"Iran's history is full of negative interference and hostility in Arab issues, and it is always accompanied by destruction," he told a news conference.
US state department spokesman John Kirby said: "We will continue to urge leaders across the region to take affirmative steps to calm tensions".
"We believe that diplomatic engagement and direct conversations remain essential," he said.
Earlier, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that the Sunni Muslim kingdom would face "divine revenge" for the execution - an act which also angered Shia Muslims elsewhere in the Middle East.
Ayatollah Khamenei called Sheikh Nimr a "martyr" who had acted peacefully.
Protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran late on Saturday, setting fire to the building before being driven back by police. The Saudi foreign ministry said none of its diplomats had been harmed in the incident.
Iran is Saudi Arabia's main regional rival - they back opposing sides in the conflicts in Syria and Yemen.
Relations between the countries have been strained over various issues in recent decades, including Iran's nuclear programme and deaths of Iranians at the Hajj pilgrimage in 1987 and again in 2015.

Australian wallabies thriving in Mid Wales UK..

The exotic animals synonymous with Australia have been spotted several times in woods near Lake Vyrnwy in Powys

It's true - there ARE wallabies on the loose in North Wales.

Breeder Stuart Robertson, 68, lost all three of his wallabies when Storm Desmond brought a tree down which broke the fence of his compound.

The animals escaped from the fenced area at Llyn Fyrnwy (Vyrnwy), Llanwddyn, Powys, roughly a month ago.

One was killed when it was struck by a car but Mr Robertson believes Sheila (the mother) and the baby (Joey) are still alive and thriving in a forest nearby.

He said: “They’ll be doing quite well I imagine, they’re just like sheep really, they eat grass.

“I do hear reports from neighbours every now and then saying they’ve been seen and it’s nice to hear.

“I’ll never be able to catch them again now they’re wild but as long as they’re doing well it could be worse.

“They’ve got no homing instinct at all because they can survive so well on their own,”

Before Christmas Chris Hall, 44, from Hope , Flintshire and his mates Phil Wade and Donato Villan were cycling near Llyn Fyrnwy (Vyrnwy) when they claim to have seen a wallaby nonchalantly sitting on his two hind feet.

Mr Robertson thinks it was probably one of his.

“I’m almost certain it’ll be one of mine. Funnily enough there aren’t many around this part of Wales.

“I really did enjoy looking after them, I’ve been doing it for years now.

“Sheep just seemed a bit dull so I thought I’d give wallabies a go.

“Some people have told me they’re worried about them but wallabies aren’t vicious at all.

“I thought I might be able to domesticate them a bit, to train them to answer my name, but I’ve had no luck really.

“People should not be concerned.”

As well as being the nickname for Australia’s international rugby team, a wallaby is a small- or mid-sized macropod found in Australia and New Guinea and they belong to the same family as kangaroos.
