South Wales 3.7 Mag earthquake: Villagers in Gwent describe the impact

 

“LOUDEST bang I ever heard”; “Like a lorry hit the house”; “A tree had come down”; “The sofa had fallen through.” These were some of the responses by people who were near the epicentre of South Wales’ earth tremor last night.

A 3.7 magnitude tremor hit Gwent last night at 11.59pm.

The Argus went to Brynmawr and the surrounding villages to ask people what was it like living – a lot of them sleeping – through a bonafide earthquake.

George Heffaran and partner Karen run the Dragons Head in Llanganny, near to Crickhowell. According to the United States Geological Society, Llanganny was the true epicentre of the earthquake - more on that later.

US roars back at China and North Korea, conducts test launch of ICBM

Biden sees Jordanian King Abdullah as the ‘guardian’ of Temple Mount

 

“Jordan is a critical ally and force for stability in the Middle East, and the President confirmed unwavering US support for Jordan and His Majesty’s leadership”, the White House said.

High-altitude object shot down off Alaska, US says

 

US President Joe Biden ordered a fighter jet to shoot down an unidentified "high-altitude object" off Alaska on Friday, the White House says.

Spokesman John Kirby said the unmanned object was "the size of a small car" and posed a "reasonable threat" to civilian aviation.

The object's purpose and origin was unclear, Mr Kirby said.

It comes a week after the American military destroyed a Chinese balloon over US territorial waters.
