For yet seven days, and I will cause it
to rain upon the earth forty days
and forty nights;
and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of
the earth.
And the flood was forty days
upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift
up above the earth.
And it came to pass at the end of forty days,
that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
And he spake unto him yet again, and
said, Peradventure there shall be forty found
there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.

he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the
words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

of years shall be unto thee forty and
nine years.
And they returned from searching of the
land after forty days.
And your children shall wander in the
wilderness forty years,
and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
After the number of the days in which
ye searched the land, even forty days,
each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years,
and ye shall know my breach of promise.
And the Lord'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made
them wander in the wilderness forty years,
until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.
And thou shalt remember all the way
which the Lord thy
God led thee these forty years
in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine
heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee,
neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
When I was gone up into the mount to
receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days
and forty nights,
I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
And it came to pass at the end of forty days
and forty nights,
that the Lord gave
me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
And I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights:
I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye
sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
Thus I fell down before the Lord forty days
and forty nights,
as I fell down at the first; because the Lord had said he would destroy you.
And I stayed in the mount, according to
the first time,forty days and forty nights;
and the Lord hearkened
unto me at that time also, and the Lord would not destroy thee.
Forty stripes
he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above
these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
And I have led you forty years
in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not
waxen old upon thy foot.
About forty thousand
prepared for war passed over before the Lord unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.
For the children of Israel walked forty years
in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of
Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: unto whom the Lord sware that he would not shew them the land, which
the Lord sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a
land that floweth with milk and honey.
Forty years
old was I when Moses the servant of theLord sent
me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it
was in mine heart.
And the land had rest forty years.

that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I
have vowed unto the Lord,

seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in
Jerusalem.
And Solomon had forty thousand
stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
And the house, that is, the temple
before it, was fortycubits
long.
And the time that Solomon reigned in
Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
And he arose, and did eat and drink,
and went in the strength of that meat forty days
and forty nights
unto Horeb the mount of God.
In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash
began to reign; andforty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's

And of Asher, such as went forth to

But do not thou yield unto them: for
there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men,
which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink
till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from
thee.
Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes
save one.
When your fathers tempted me, proved
me, and saw my works forty years.
But with whom was he grieved forty years?
was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
