The Queen will not return to live in Buckingham Palace but will instead reside permanently at Windsor Castle, according to reports.
The 95-year-old monarch has been living in Windsor since the start of the pandemic.
She relocated to the royal residence in Berkshire with Prince Philip as the UK faced its first national lockdown in March 2020.
According to sources, the Queen and Prince Philip “rediscovered the happiness of their early years together” when they relocated to Windsor during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The castle is the last home they shared together before Prince Philip’s death aged 99 in April 2021.
The move is also believed to have been prompted by a 10-year refurbishment which is currently underway at Buckingham Palace, making it impractical for the Queen to live there at this time, The Sunday Times reports.
“The re-servicing does not end until 2027. While ongoing, it is not really a place to stay long-term,” a source said.
Royal author Hugo Vickers told the newspaper: “Windsor is the place she loves. She has her memories with Prince Philip there, she has her ponies there and family nearby. It makes sense.”
It is understood that while Windsor Castle will become the Queen’s primary residence, she will make day trips to Buckingham Palace.
The monarch has lived at the central London landmark for much of her record-breaking 70-year reign.
God Bless you all Amen.
